THE ENTRYWAY
First impressions are important and we wanted the entryway to say “welcome home” in the most inviting way, because there’s just nothing like coming home to a space that feels like home sweet home. While the house had “good bones”, there were a few things that needed to be done in order to accomplish a fresh and modern entryway.

After
We extended the front entry of the home forward five feet and created an open two-story great room for a high-impact entry with plenty of sunshine. Maximizing the natural light was one of the priorities for us during the design process to create a modern entryway.

Before
We changed the size of the window and raised the header height to give ample sight lines from the front to the back. We also increased the front door from a single to a double, which meant the coat closets had to go.

After
Natural fibers, textures & patterns were key in incorporating the outdoors. The natural wood branches of the chandelier cast the most beautiful shadows when lit, and the relaxed geometric stubby linen was the perfect choice to upholster the over-sized ottoman tucked below the library table. Altogether, it created the visually powerful first impression we were going for!
THE GREAT ROOM
It’s amazing what can be done during a renovation. For the #NorthernFrostreno , photographed by Alyssa Rosenheck, we wanted to create a living space that was inviting, comfortable, and bright. Letting in all of that beautiful sunshine and lush backyard views was one of our goals for this area. The solution? Well, that required a bit of demolition…

After
This great room did not start out with 18 ft ceiling heights. Originally, above the existing great room was a secondary bedroom and bathroom. By restructuring the second floor we were able to eliminate those spaces and open it up to a two story volume. Easier said than done, right?

Eliminating the second floor above the great room allowed us to install two story windows, providing lots of natural light. We also love how spacious it feels. With plenty of seating, it’s the perfect space for family game nights!

Bye, bye secondary bedroom! Hello GREAT room!
PRIMARY BEDROOM SUITE
In the main bedroom + bathroom at our #northernfrostreno project, the renovation process was not a simple as it appeared. We had a multitude of our client’s goals to accomplish, however, the layout of the bedroom in conjunction with the bathroom needed a serious tweak! Repositioning the location of the bedroom and bathroom, almost like one big switch up, gave us much more room to work with. On top of that, we were able to install a vestibule off of the great room to add another layer of privacy.

Moving the bedroom to the rear of the home allowed for us to add additional windows. Enhancing the natural light and outdoor views was key!

PRIMARY BATHROOM
By relocating the bathroom, we were able to establish a more organized layout, including expansive vanities, a private toilet room, and even a roomy shower. Because who doesn’t want a bigger bathroom??

While we didn’t add any square footage to the main suite, we made each of the key uses (i.e. the closet and bathroom) much more functional. One of my favorite features in the main bathroom is the heated tile—it’s a handy feature for chilly mornings in Nebraska!
After an incredible renovation, the main bedroom + bathroom at the #northernfrostreno feels like a haven of all things light, bright, and cozy.
